Street Art of George Town

I've been noticing friends taking photos with murals and i got really curious about it, so far i've never seen such thing in Malaysia, not in my knowledge. This is a street art project created by an international artist named Ernest Zacharevic, in conjunction with the George Town Festival that started from 15th June 2012 - 15th July 2012. Besides the wall paintings, the festival also involved the creation of steel-rod sculptures, depicting the scenes of life in Penang. Um i noticed alot of sharings & comments online and there were actually people that wanted these paintings to be a part of their wedding photos, seriously i saw! Thus i think these paintings bring George Town comes alive ;)

For the steel-rod sculptures, there are total 24 of it, these are some:
(description of sculptures are from brochure)

Cheating Husband - The local chinese say the rich men who lived on Muntri Street kept their mistresses here, hence the name 'Ai Cheng Hang' or Love Lane.

Narrowest Five Foot Way - Obviously, this is less than five feet.. the 'five foot way' of Wan Hai Hotel is said to be the narrowest in Penang.

One Leg Kicks All - The 'black and white' Amahs were cantonese domestic servants from Guangdong who did all kinds of household chores and would refer to themselves with wry humour as "Yat Keok Tet" (One Leg Kicks All).

Ting Ting Thong - One of the favourite foods sold at Seck Chuan Lane is ting ting thong or rock candy, a hardened mixture of sugar, sesame seeds and nuts loved by kids. It has to be "chiselled" and "hammered" to break it into smaller biteable pieces. I remember this candy ;)

Finally, the hand paintings by young artist Ernest Zacharevic.

"Broken Heart" at Love Lane, but it has the board hanging 'happily ever after' in the middle, hahaha swt :/

"Kungfu Girl" at Lebuh Muntri, next to Ta Kam Hong temple.

"Old Man" at Lebuh Armenian, the painting had faded a little because it is not as clear as what i saw from the original painting photo.

"Kids on Bicycle" at Armenian Street. This is the people's favourite i think, it represents this whole festival :)

"Old Motorcycle" at Ah Quee Street.

"Little Boy with Pet Dinosaur" at Ah Quee Street.

"Brother and sister on a swing" was painted by a young local deaf-mute artist named Louis Gan, in an alleyway off Chulia Street Ghaut. This drawing shows the intimacy of sibling relationships, just as Louis with his brother. And just like me and my sister :)

Another painting by Louis Gan, "children playing basketball" is located just opposite road of "Brother and sister on a swing".

There are alot of souvenirs selling along the houses in Chew Jetty. Please support if you really think of getting something memorable.

The last painting i've visited, "children in a boat" in Chew Jetty. The painting fades badly as you can see in the picture – the little girl and boy's face were destroyed!

Penang, my dad's hometown and i used to live here :)
